Mineral Makeup | Testing out Bellá Pierre Makeup

Saturday, July 02, 2016

Mineral makeup has been on my makeup must-try list for a while now. I have experimented with Bare Minerals before, but I always wanted to try out more brands. In Singapore, there aren’t many mineral makeup brands out there so I was glad to have the opportunity to play around with some Bella Pierre goodies!

Bellapierre Cosmetics is an American brand and is specialist in producing luxury mineral makeup, makeup accessories, and skin care products. These products are made with 100% minerals, making them suitable for all skin types, including those with sensitive skin. They are also known to not clog the pores as well!

I received the starter kit, which contained 2 Mineral Foundations, 1 Mineral Bronzer and 1 Mineral Blush that is best suited for my skin tone. I got mine in the shades Cinnamon for the foundation, Autumn Glow for the blush and Starshine for the bronzer. The kit also includes 3 brushes made from synthetic fibres, namely a Powder Brush, a Blush Brush and a Concealer Brush.

The brushes are extremely soft and they feel really nice on the skin. The bristles are also of good density, allowing for the product to be sufficiently buffed into the skin.

The foundation is a pretty good match for me (I am NC 20-25 for reference). There are 8 shades available, catering to both light and darker skin tones. I do find that the shade range available is slightly more inclusive than the Bare Minerals one (especially for the extremes – super fair and dark skin tones).

Like typical mineral foundations, this one comes with a sieve as well. I did wish that the sieve would have its own turnable plastic cover instead of just a sticker over it as it can get pretty messy sometimes. The powder is very finely milled and upon a finger swatch, it felt creamy and smooth on the skin.

To use, simply pour some powder onto the cap, use a powder brush (also provided in the kit) to dip into it, swirl it around and tap off the excess before applying to the skin. I do find that circular buffing motions really do help to blend the product in without being patchy. With the first layer, I would say that the coverage is light to a buildable medium. It evened out my skin tone but it did not manage to cover my blemishes and acne scarring. Despite two layers, I found that this foundation blended in nicely, with barely any noticeable patches (which mineral foundations are fond of giving). After application, I noticed that it has a satin, bordering on dewy finish on the skin. I looked like I was glowing, which ain’t a bad look for sure.

This lasted a good 6-7 hours on me before disappearing on my upper lip and jaw line area. I also tested it out with various primers as well. Pore blurring primers do result in a smoother application and finish whereas oil controlling ones did help to reduce shine for a longer period of time. Without a primer, I noticed that I can look greasy real quick as the finish of the foundation is pretty dewy and I do find that the oil controlling properties of the foundation is not fantastic.

I do like the shade of the blush – a gorgeous peachy pink with a sheen. This reminds me a tad of Milani’s Luminoso or Nars Orgasm blush. This blush is pigmented, so be sure to only use a little at a time and really swirl it around the cap to get an even distribution. Blush is always the first to disappear on me, but this lasted the whole day till I removed my entire face makeup! I’m pretty impressed.

The bronzer is a pretty shade as well, albeit it having shimmer. Some people steer clear away from these, but I do like how a shimmery bronzer looks on the skin when applied sparingly. Same as the blush, this is pigmented as well and a little goes a long way. The shade looks decent on me, not too orangey or ashy, so I definitely do like it.

I also received the Eye Shimmer Powder and All Natural Mineral Lipstick. The shimmer powder is in the shade Lava and it is GORGEOUS. When I swatched it for the first time, I was like yaaaaaas, give it to me. It is a super metallic bronzey gold that is such a staple!

As it is very pigmented, I felt that there was no need to spray my brush with MAC fix + to intensify the sheen. This worked fantastic on its own.

Last product of mention would be the lipstick in VaVaVoom! – a bright cool toned red. The lipsticks from this range are formulated with natural waxes, mineral pigments and antioxidants. This lipstick glides really smoothly on the lips with no tugging and the formulation is creamy and moisturizing. This did not emphasise the lines on my lips and as it has a satin creamy finish, it made the lips look fuller.

Overall, these products do work well and I am pleased with its performance. It is pretty affordable as well. If you are interested in mineral makeup, this brand is definitely a possible option for you.
